Reaching the age of fifteen in the life of a young Hispanic girl is a moment to celebrate, but above all, is an invitation to live with responsibility. The Incas, the Mayas, the Toltec, and the Aztecs, all had the custom to prepare their members once they’ve all reached a specific age. These ceremonies were meant to shape up these teenage members into their adult roles, to benefit both them and the tribe. In modern times, young Hispanic girls celebrate their “Quince Años” with a Mass or blessing at their local parish and a social event afterwards. Here at St. Justin Martyr Parish we are committed in continuing with this wonderful tradition of the Hispanic Culture. However, keeping in mind the role of the young girl, which is to live a more responsible life in today’s society, and keeping alive her customs and Catholic faith.
